The city director will multiply Young Life programs, growing from one developing area in Amsterdam, to thriving, sustainable incarnational youth ministry with all types of young people throughout Amsterdam.

The city director provides a critical level of oversight and management, with leadership over all local work with staff, volunteers and teenagers. He or she provides spiritual leadership and direction; establishes alignment to Young Life’s brand, mission, values and strategic plan; monitors accountability to all areas of growth and operations; and ensures financial stability and sustainability.
ResponsibilitiesBuild and lead a team of diverse staff and volunteers throughout AmsterdamWork alongside a newly formed Amsterdam start-up board that is focused on networking, advocacy and fundraisingRecruit, equip, train and manage high-capacity staff in every neighborhoodDevelop strong and healthy relationships with churches, charities and local authoritiesLead significant fundraising initiatives and prioritize developing local, sustainable giving in AmsterdamEncourage vibrant volunteer engagementSpiritual Development – Focus individual and city ministry on following JesusExemplify a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, leading by example in practicing prayer and spiritual disciplinesLead others in a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and involvement in local church, promoting the health of staff and vibrant ministryPromote growth and health in your staff and volunteers -- spiritually, emotionally, relationally, physically and mentallyDevelop positive ministry relationships and work with local churches, charities and local authoritiesDevelop self-leadership. Take responsibility for your personal and professional health, growth and development including emotional and relational health, time management and conflict resolutionMake prayer a priority. Ensure all ministry in the city is designed and carried out with reliance on prayer; help all teams and staff with a written prayer strategy

Networking and Developing Ministry with Young People – Establish healthy, sustainable ministries in the Western European city.
Lead in growing and strengthening Young Life International's (YLI) network in the city. Establish and strengthen links and develop shared initiatives with local churches and organizationsBuild the credibility of YLI as a reliable, effective organization in working with young peopleCast vision. Develop and communicate an inspiring goal for working with more and all types of young people in all areas of the cityWork with team leaders and staff to formulate and regularly review vision statements and strategiesEstablish and grow healthy, sustainable new YLI areas and collaborationsMaintain ministry engagement with young people to the extent it is necessary to be effective in your roleLeadership Development – Lead and line manage excellent and effective staffRecruit, train and supervise a growing team of excellent and effective staff with multiple levels of experienceSupervise all team leads and staff fulfilling equivalent roles. Help manage their workload, scheduling of time off and regular performance reviewsEnsure that all supervisors in your city are providing full accountability and support for their staffRecruit and ensure training for all field staff in your region in liaison with the Europe Division and Western Europe Region and the International Training departmentEnsure all staff understand and operate per YLI policies and practices as set out in the Employees’ Handbook including Child Protection and Safeguarding, Risk Assessments, Insurance, First Aid, and Health, Safety and Hygiene procedures

Financial Sustainability – Strengthen and help ensure sustainable ministry by sourcing funding and empowering others in healthy fundraising and financial stewardship.
Lead the fundraising efforts for the city, working closely with the Western Europe regional director and SVP Global CitiesEnsure sustainable fundraising strategies and budgets are formulated and implemented across the cityIdentify, cultivate and nurture relationships with all donors for the city -- nationally and missionwideRaise financial support for your city account, personal salary and expensesOversee and manage areas to maintain positive cash flowThe regional director, city director and city board will manage any Young Life area in deficit. These three entities will cover any shortfall if the area ends in deficit at the end of the yearCommunity Support Cultivation – Develop a city-wide board of adultsRecruit, develop and sustain a lead group of key city adults and stakeholders who are consistently engaged at the city level regarding aspects such as strategy, accountability and fundraisingHelp areas build healthy local committeesEnsure each committee has a membership of at least five, with a designated chair, treasurer and secretaryAttend relevant committee meetings as appropriateIdentify potential committee members on every levelEnsure the committee chairs and committee members receive appropriate trainingCamping – Oversee camping strategy for the Western European cityCoordinate all camping for the city's young with the Western Europe regional director and International CampingEnsure appropriate numbers of campers, work crew, summer staff and leaders from the city participate in appropriate camping opportunitiesEstablish a target number of campers for each of your areas for camps and service projects; support staff in reaching these goalsProvide suitable staff for assignment teams at local country camps and missionwide campsComplete camp assignments and supervise assignment teams as requestedDevelop camping and discipleship experiences as appropriateMinistry Support – Ensure administrative systems effectively support the core ministry functionsGrow and lead an effective city office to provide appropriate levels of administrative support to the city staffFollow all YLI policies and practices as laid out in the Employees’ Handbook including Child Protection and Safeguarding, Risk Assessments, Insurance, First Aid, and Health, Safety and Hygiene proceduresInternal Communication: Send timely and appropriate information to all staff and leaders in the city, as appropriate:- Liaise frequently with the Western Europe regional director, SVP Global Cities team, area directors, their offices, the central office, and division and missionwide staff as appropriate.- Data Management: Ensure area databases are maintained and updated to provide accessible and current information in compliance with the GDPR.- Young Life staff will be trained in the YL Connect system for all data management and will fill out the CMC for club statistics on a weekly basisTraining – Help ensure continued professional developmentProvide training to all Young Life staff so that they can more effectively develop:- Personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.- Competency in ministry skills (e.g. Christ, contact work, club, camp, Campaigners).- Ability to teach and lead others.- Familiarity with area strategy and ministry health.- Volunteers including recruiting, training, supervising and implementation of YLI policies and practices.- Train all leaders in YL Forward: Tree, List and MapEnsure all staff in Western European Global City attend appropriate European Division and regional training (Winter Training, Leadership I & II, Regional Training Conferences)Organize the city-wide training as appropriate for staff and volunteersParticipate in Global Cities calls, meetings and cohort collaborationYou are encouraged to continue further training that will support you in your role with Young Life (spiritual direction, fundraising coach, ministry coach, life coach)QualificationsA post-secondary degree and five years’ experience in a non-profit settingSeveral years as an effective leader of diverse teams is requiredA vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a proven ability to provide effective spiritual leadershipAn entrepreneurial leader of leaders who creates positive energy in both individuals and groups to achieve critical mass and cultivate mission communitiesEffectively use multiple strategies to gather people from different walks of life and demographics, and demonstrate ability to build and sustain capable staff teams and teams of strategic adult stakeholders, including key influencersA history of effective fundraising that demonstrates this individual's commitment to cultivating strong, long-term relationships with donorsA strong vision for growing Young Life and a track record of planning and implementing sound growth strategiesAs a member of Young Life the Netherlands, the director subscribes to Young Life’s Statement of Faith and abides by its Codes of ConductWorking Conditions

Will include travel in and around the city, Western Europe and international travel, the extremes of a camp and/or service project assignment (e.g., heat/cold, dirt, long hours), and the physical demands of hiking, canvas camping, canoeing, etc. Staff person must be able to handle these conditions.
